John P. Loonam

has been publishing fiction and articles for more than three decades.  His short story collection, The Price of Their Toys (Cornerstone Press, 2026) is available from bookstores, Bookshop.org, Barnes and Noble, or Amazon. Previous work has appeared in various magazines and websites including The Summerset Review, The Santa Fe Writer’s Project, descant, and The Madison Review.  His work has been anthologized alongside stories by Annie Proulx, and John Edgar Wideman, listed in storysouth's "Best of the Web" and nominated for the Pushcart Prize.  He frequently reviews books for The Washington Independent Review of Books and other publications.  He has had short plays read in the Mottola Theater Company’s Cherry-Picking Festival many times. His novel, Music the World Makes, will be published by Frayed Edge Press later 2026.

A teacher in New York’s public schools for thirty-five years, Loonam earned an MA in Creative Writing from City College, CUNY, and a doctorate in American Literature from The Graduate Center, CUNY. He lives with his wife Maria in Brooklyn, near his sons John James and Joseph.
